Rate Structure Surcharges
OVERVIEW
Surcharges are optional charges added to a rate structure on top of tier-based usage charges. They can be percentage-based or flat amounts.
WHAT ARE SURCHARGES?
- Apply ONLY to the service they're configured for, not to taxes or other services
- Calculated based on the service's tier subtotal
- Can be percentage-based (e.g., 5% of subtotal) or flat (fixed amount)
- Can have a minimum amount floor
Please contact Support to enable this feature if it is not available in your account.
CONFIGURING SURCHARGES
1.Open or create a Rate Structure
2.In the configuration, select surcharges from the drop-down

3.Multiple surcharges can be assigned to one rate structure
Surcharges must already be configured as Transaction Subtypes

To verify that the surcharge is added to the rate structure, navigate to your rate structure, and the surcharge section should appear.

HOW SURCHARGES ARE CALCULATED
- Percentage: (service tier subtotal) × (surcharge percentage)
- Flat: fixed amount regardless of usage
- Minimum: if calculated amount is below the minimum, the minimum applies
BILLING EXAMPLES
- Service tier subtotal $200 with 5% surcharge = $10 added
- Service tier subtotal $200 with flat $15 surcharge = $15 added
- Service tier subtotal $1 with 5% surcharge and $5 minimum = $5 added (floor applies)
- Multiple services on one bill: only services with surcharges get them applied
BILL IMPACT
- Surcharges appear as separate line items on bills
- Each has its own line item with the configured transaction type
- Included in the total bill amount

TROUBLESHOOTING
Q: Surcharges field not visible?
A: Surcharges must be enabled by Support
Q: Surcharge not appearing on bill?
A: Check that the surcharge is assigned to the rate structure used by that service
Q: Surcharge amount seems wrong?
A: Verify the calculation: for percentage, check (tier subtotal × percentage). For flat, it should be the fixed amount. Check for a configured minimum that may override it.
