Adding Service-Specific Late Fees to Delinquent Accounts
This guide explains how late fee rules can be restricted to a specific service type (such as Water or Sewer), so the fee is only added to accounts that actually carry that service ,and shows how to post those fees from the Delinquency screen.
How service-specific late fees work
Make sure the fee subtype has been created in your Settings > Charges&Credits Section
Under Settings > Delinquency > Policies, each late fee rule can have a Service Type Filter applied. For example:
- Late Fee Water — Service Type Filter set to Water
- Late Fee Sewer — Service Type Filter set to Sewer
To check or edit this, open the rule (click into it from the Policies list) you'll see a Service Type Filter dropdown alongside the fee's other settings (Has Fee, notices, etc.).

When you post one of these fees to a bulk of accounts, the system checks each account's active services first. If the account does not carry the required service type, the fee is skipped for that account even though it was included in the batch.
Example walkthrough
In this example, three delinquent accounts have different service combinations:
| Account | Water | Sewer |
|---|---|---|
| Heather Garcia | Active | — |
| Sean Wade | Active | Active |
| Michelle Lopez | — | Active |
You can confirm an account's services under its account page, on the Services tab.

Step 1: Applying "Late Fee Water"
- Go to Delinquency and open the Late Fee tab that corresponds with the water late fee.
- Select the accounts to add the fee to
- Click Fee ($10.00) to open the Add Charge/Credit panel ,it will show the transaction subtype Late Fee Water, Amount Type Flat, Amount $10.
- Click Post.
- Result: the $10.00 fee is added to Heather Garcia and Sean Wade only , both show "Last Fee Added: $10.00." Michelle Lopez is skipped since she has no active Water service.

Step 2: Applying "Late Fee Sewer"
- Switch to the Late Fee #2 filter tab for the same accounts.
- Select the accounts
- Click Fee ($10.00) , this time the panel shows transaction subtype Late Fee Sewer.
- Click Post.
- Result: the fee is added to Sean Wade and Michelle Lopez. Heather Garcia is skipped since she has no Sewer service ,her account still only shows the one Water late fee from Step 1.

Key takeaway
Because each late fee rule checks its required service type before posting, you can safely select a mixed batch of accounts and post a fee once. It will only land on the accounts that actually qualify. Accounts missing the required service type are automatically skipped, with no fee added to them.
Note: As with other Delinquency fees, these are not added automatically by the system ,they must be posted manually
